Hello! This is a website where I post some of my thoughts about teaching, learning, and programming. I’ve been teaching Physics and Programming at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts since 1995. I have a website that I use with my classes here. Its made with Ruby on Rails.
Actually, I started out teaching just Physics, and then in 2000 I started teaching programming. The programming courses I’m teaching this year are Intro to Programming, where we use the Ruby Programming Language, and a course called Web Publishing. Next year I’m teaching those, plus iOS Programming, where we use XCode and Swift.
I wrote a book, called Learn Game Programming with Ruby, to help young people learn game programming. Its best for people who’ve learned a little programming, and are ready to level up their skills!
I teach after school and summer classes to kids in programming. You can learn more about those classes at http://www.gameswithcode.com.
I live in Maynard, Massachusetts, right near the mill where Digital Equipment Corporation was headquartered in the 1980s. And I first learned to program (at Winchester High School) on a DEC PDP-11, in BASIC.
I spend a good deal of time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where I worked for the Appalachian Mountain Club when I was younger. In particular, I love the Northern Presidential Range, from Mount Washington north to Mount Madison. I also love running, and I’ve run a marathon each Fall for the past three years.
